What businesses look for in prospective workers

"A high school diploma is not enough for our area. But you could come into our industry as a laborer, and start there, but from our standpoint as an organization, we’re still going to look at that attitude and the chemistry. It costs so much for us to identify an individual, put them into our program, if you will, and then at the end of the day, to find out that they don’t fit. So we have to do our due diligence, not only from the standpoint of the fundamental knowledge and education that they need to have – reading, writing and arithmetic – but I think also from the standpoint of who they are as an individual – and that is key. And I think in the educational process, we’re getting on board with, again, emotional intelligence, but we’re not getting on board fast enough."
