Local school graduation data indicate that white students perform better than black students in the township schools, while black students perform better than whites in the IPS schools. While graduation rates are lower for black students overall, the lowest graduation rates of all are found among white students at IPS schools.

Hispanic student performance is not shown in the table; the Hispanic graduation rate is not given at the Indiana Department of Education Web site because the number is too small at many schools. The graduation rate for Hispanic students at Indianapolis Public Schools, 2005-06, was 53.9 percent. This was higher than the graduation rate for either white (48.8 percent) or black students (53.2 percent).

Recent graduation rates in Indianapolis are lower in general than elsewhere. They also are arranged differently. White students statewide graduate at the highest rate (79.6 percent), but at IPS school the lowest (48.8 percent). Black students graduate 58.5 percent statewide.
